Summary: During my internship with the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District, I had the opportunity to contribute to disease surveillance and mosquito population suppression. As part of the team, I conducted fieldwork, setting up mosquito traps and collecting samples in rural areas. In the lab, I sorted and identified mosquito species and used quantitative PCR to test for viruses like West Nile, St. Louis encephalitis, and western Equine encephalitis. Additionally, I conducted pesticide resistance assays to determine effective treatments.
