W07 Discussion: Change for Good

Overview

Read the following words from Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf:

Do you want to change the shape of your life?

Change the shape of your day.

Do you want to change your day?

Change this hour.

Change what you think, feel, and do at this very moment.

A small rudder can steer a large ship.

Small bricks can become magnificent mansions.

Small seeds can become towering sequoias.

Minutes and hours well spent are the building blocks of a life well lived.

(Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Daily Restoration,” October 2021.)

Reflect on what you learned this semester in this class and from your peers. What will you take with you?

Instructions

Initial Post - Due by Middle of the Week

In your WhatsApp group

  1. Answer the following questions, "What idea or quote would you use to capture what you’ve gained from this class? Why?"
    • You do not need to ask a question to further discussion.
  2. Provide feedback to at least two peers for specific insights and contributions that individual did prior to this week and over the course of the semester. Responding to their current Week 7 post does not fulfill the assignment to reflect on what you have learned from them this semester.  This is an opportunity to express gratitude for seven weeks of contributions of mentors, teachers, peers, or many even new friends.
  3. Indicate you are done with your assignment by going to the W07 Discussion: Change for Good assignment in Canvas and doing the following:
    • Select Start Assignment of this Canvas assignment
    • Copy/paste the text of your initial WhatsApp post in the Text Entry box
    • Summarize the two gratitude posts you made about two other classmates. Include each student's name.
    • Select Submit Assignment.
    • (Your assignment will not be graded unless you complete this step.)

Omari’s Example on WhatsApp

President Nelson said at the 2023 April Conference, “How we treat each other really matters!” For me, this is the most important revelation I needed to get this semester. It matters how I listen, how I respond to conflict, which words I choose. I want the people in my life to know they are children of God by the way I treat them.

Example of Feedback to Omari’s WhatsApp Post

Omari, thank you for sharing with our group your testimony each week of the semester. I have noticed that you tend to speak of spiritual things as we discuss communication. It helped me feel the Spirit each week.

Example of Omari's Submission in Canvas

My initial post: President Nelson said at the 2023 April Conference, “How we treat each other really matters!” For me, this is the most important revelation I needed to get this semester. It matters how I listen, how I respond to conflict, which words I choose. I want the people in my life to know they are children of God by the way I treat them.

My interaction: Post #1--I told Lisa thank you for sharing her talent of baking with us during lesson 2's talent show. It inspired me to want to bake more, and I showed Lisa a photo of a loaf of bread I made. Post #2--I thanked Benjamin for sharing his thoughts on the talk "Think Celestial" during lesson 6's conflict discussion board when he wrote a scene about fighting with his brother. He was very honest, and it helped me to know to forgive.
