Listen, Listen, Listen

I can’t overstate this: if you don’t know how the piece is supposed to sound, you will not be able to create that sound. We are extremely fortunate to (usually) have a way to hear the piece before we play it. Take advantage of this nearly effortless way to learn your piece.

  1. Purchase and download a good quality recording of the piece.
  2. Play it on repeat (along with any other music you’re learning) throughout the day and/or night.
  3. At least once every day for a week, listen to the piece while you follow along in the score, preferably the piano score if the music has accompaniment.
