We are children of Heavenly Parents

Genesis 1:27

  1. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Romans 8:16-17

  1. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
  2. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint- heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Hebrews 12:9

  1. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

D&C 76:23-24

  1. For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
  2. That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.

God’s plan of happiness is based on eternal truth and law

D&C 130:18-21

  1. Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.
  2. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.
  3. There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—
  4. And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

D&C 88:15-16, 21-39

  1. And the spirit and the body are the soul of man.
  2. And the resurrection from the dead is the redemption of the soul.
  1. And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom.
  2. For he who is not able to abide the law of a celestial kingdom cannot abide a celestial glory.
  3. And he who cannot abide the law of a terrestrial kingdom cannot abide a terrestrial glory.
  4. And he who cannot abide the law of a telestial kingdom cannot abide a telestial glory; therefore he is not meet for a kingdom of glory. Therefore he must abide a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory.
  5. And again, verily I say unto you, the earth abideth the law of a celestial kingdom, for it filleth the measure of its creation, and transgresseth not the law—
  6. Wherefore, it shall be sanctified; yea, notwithstanding it shall die, it shall be quickened again, and shall abide the power by which it is quickened, and the righteous shall inherit it.
  7. For notwithstanding they die, they also shall arise again, a spiritual body.
  8. They who are of a celestial spirit shall receive the same body which was a natural body; even ye shall receive your bodies, and your glory shall be that glory by which your bodies are quickened.
  9. Ye who are quickened by a portion of the celestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
  10. And they who are quickened by a portion of the terrestrial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
  11. And also they who are quickened by a portion of the telestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
  12. And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received.
  13. For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift.
  14. And again, verily I say unto you, that which is governed by law is also preserved by law and perfected and sanctified by the same.
  15. That which breaketh a law, and abideth not by law, but seeketh to become a law unto itself, and willeth to abide in sin, and altogether abideth in sin, cannot be sanctified by law, neither by mercy, justice, nor judgment. Therefore, they must remain filthy still.
  16. All kingdoms have a law given;
  17. And there are many kingdoms; for there is no space in the which there is no kingdom; and there is no kingdom in which there is no space, either a greater or a lesser kingdom.
  18. And unto every kingdom is given a law; and unto every law there are certain bounds also and conditions.
  19. All beings who abide not in those conditions are not justified.

D&C 93:24-39

  1. And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;
  2. And whatsoever is more or less than this is the spirit of that wicked one who was a liar from the beginning.
  3. The Spirit of truth is of God. I am the Spirit of truth, and John bore record of me, saying: He received a fulness of truth, yea, even of all truth;
  4. And no man receiveth a fulness unless he keepeth his commandments.
  5. He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.
  6. Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.
  7. All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.
  8. Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light.
  9. And every man whose spirit receiveth not the light is under condemnation.
  10. For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;
  11. And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy.
  12. The elements are the tabernacle of God; yea, man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple.
  13. The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.
  14. Light and truth forsake that evil one.
  15. Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God.
  16. And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the traditions of their fathers.

Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and the family is central to the Creator’s plan

Matthew 19:3-6

  1. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
  2. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
  3. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
  4. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

D&C 49:15-17

  1. And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God, for marriage is ordained of God unto man.
  2. Wherefore, it is lawful that he should have one wife, and they twain shall be one flesh, and all this that the earth might answer the end of its creation;
  3. And that it might be filled with the measure of man, according to his creation before the world was made.
