Example Essay #2

Popular Genres of Film

Movies are a good type of entertainment. You can enjoy being alone, in a couple or with many people in the same environment. Depending on the choice of film that people make, they can have fun, be happy, get emotional, cry, become anxious or nervous while they watch it. Once a film is released, it brings people together to watch the movie and seize the moment. Given that, there are different types of movies for all tastes and occasions. The most popular are the genres of romance and suspense.

Romance is another genre that people like other than fiction. Romance films are those in which the characters develop around a love story between the protagonists. This genre can be subdivided into romantic drama and romantic comedy. So, in the romantic drama, the protagonists live with obstacles or barriers that life itself imposes and can often be turned into tragedies. For instance, the film "Romeo and Juliet", based on Shakespeare's play or the Titanic, separates the lovers permanently at the end. On the other hand, romantic comedies are lighter, accompanied by laughter and romantic achievements. Therefore, they portray that love can be silly, exciting and joyful. For example, the classic for every teenager in the 90's was the movie "10 Things I Hate About You". The romance genre certainly emphasizes that true love can overcome obstacles or that it is possible to find the perfect match, even if it does not always have a happy ending.

Another popular film genre for the public is suspense. In this kind of movie, the feeling is that something bad will happen. The script of the film might also suggest clues about the possible outcome of a conflict, so the viewer can deduce or guess what is about to happen. The resolution of the development at the end of the film occurs logically and according to the probability of events. It is very common when people are watching this genre to suddenly become frightened or very eager to discover the outcome of the story. At the movies, this kind of film captivates audiences. The most famous films of this genre are "The Others", "Shutter Island" and "The Sixth Sense". For this reason, suspense films are very popular because they attract people's attention until the end of the film.

In conclusion, the films of romance and suspense are the most sought after by viewers. They attract the attention of the audience, captivate them with their message, make them stand up for or judge the characters and often make many viewers want to participate in something. Sometimes the personality of each person impacts their choice of film. It doesn't matter what your favorite type of movie is, the important thing is to have a favorite movie to share with others. If your favorite genre isn't the most popular, maybe it will be the most popular in the future.
