Print out a Drinking Water Treatment Survey Form

Step 02

The following pictures show the drinking water treatment facility in the Benson building at BYU Idaho. Look at each picture and read its name and purpose. Transfer that information to your Drinking Water Treatment Survey Form.

A water pipe is run through a 5-micron pre filter.

Water enters the building and flows through a 5-micron pre filter that filters out dirt and sediment.

 

An Activated carbon filter

Water flows through the Activated carbon filter where Volatile organic chemicals are taken out of the water.

Two water softening tanks

Water flows through the water softener where Calcium and magnesium are taken out.

 

A pre-filter with a pore size of 2 micrometers.
Water flows through another pre-filter with a pore size of 2 micrometers. Other small debris are removed from the water.


Three reverse osmosis tubes.

Water flows through reverse osmosis tubes where submansces larger than 1 micron are filtered out.

An ultraviolet treatment chamber.

Water flows through an ultraviolet treatment chamber where anything still present and pathogenic can be killed or deactivated.

Step 03

Create a flow chart of the drinking water treatment process at the Benson building. If you cannot create a flow chart you can turn in a word document outlining the stages of the system.

Step 04

When you have completed your flow chart, turn it in to complete the assignment.
