Overview
- Task: Perform a virtual lab.
- Purpose: This activity will give you hands-on experience in conducting a solid waste transfer station inspection.
Instructions
To successfully complete this activity, carefully follow these steps:
- Download: Solid Waste Virtual Lab Form.
- You can reference the practice inspection that you completed earlier in the week
- Participate in the virtual lab
- Solid Waste Virtual Lab
- Look for details in the images that represent the information you would collect if this were an in-person inspection.
- Complete the inspection form.
- Make sure to address all areas of the form. If something is not applicable, explain why it is not applicable, rather than leave the area blank.
- Review the Inspection Report rubric prior to submitting and address any issues necessary.
- Submit your Solid Waste Virtual Lab Form in Canvas.

Madison County Transfer station accepts the following:
- Household waste
- Municipal solid waste
- Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners
- White goods (washers, dryers, water heaters, ranges)
- Old tires
- Old batteries
- Computers, TV's, Radios, all electronics
- Newspaper
The transfer station CANNOT accept any liquids of any kind, or any hazardous materials of any kind.
Dumping floor- Cleaned completely at least once daily
Evidence of bird damage in the insulation of the dumping floor walls
Truck Loading Area- Trucks are loaded to take solid waste to the dump
Truck weighing scale
Truck with cover to prevent items from blowing out
Site for dumping metal and tires
Site for dumping construction and demolition waste
Site for dumping yard waste
Site for dumping electronic waste
Site for dumping large appliances
